Target Audience

1.) Who is the target audience for film poster?

I think the target audience for the film poster of my choice is around 16+ because the women on the left hand side is wearing a red dress and the red colour stand out and showing that she is the main protagonist and she is leading a group.

2.) What techniques have been used to target them?
The techniques that has been used to target the audience is the female and the way they dress her in this poster, they also move her to the front of the poster to show who is the main person/protagonist in the film.

Anchorage

3.) What is anchorage?
Anchorage is when a piece of media uses another piece of media to reduce the amount of connotations in the first, therefore allowing the audience to interpret it much more easily. For example in a newspaper, pictures are accompanied by a caption that allows us to understand what the picture is showing us. In films, background music often helps us interpret the scenario. Finally, pictures can often be described with other pictures.

4.)  How has anchorage been used to make the audience clear?
The anchorage has been used in this poster showing the annotation, example "NO NAMES. NO BADGES. NO MERCY. The film poster show that and the understanding that the film is showing a female dressed in red dress and telling that she tell what to do.

5. ) Why is it beneficial to apply anchorage to the construction of a film poster?
Because it will describe the film and will tell you something about it for example in this film poster Gangster Squad the main character is the women because she is the protagonist and she standout more than the background people

Critical Approaches - Targeting Audiences

1.)  What is segmentation?

Segmentation is dividing a different part poster and people which are targeted, for example target audience can be divide to different segments and also mean in more than one audience has been targeted and film which is targeted on the audience.

2.) How can it be applied?

The first poster shows all the characters which are shown in the film and is difficult to find which one of them is the leader and the techniques that they using is the title which is saying Roline with the ninies and the theme that they used is red and brown.

The second poster it has less characters but is more easy to see who us the protagonist and the techniques

3.) Why is it used?

Morvelisa's Critical Approaches - "Documentary Comparison" Homework 5

Documentary Comparison

The both documentaries are very good but the "The Lift" and "Bowling for Columbine" have a similarities and differences.
Firstly I will start from the first documentary that we have watched in the class which is Bowling for Columbine and then I will find the similarities in the film "The Lift".

Bowling for Columbine which was made by Michael Moore and this film has Ideal topic about the weapons in United States and the crime and whole story have been developed for many and many months, he has shown the evidence by showing the archive footage, such as TV broadcasting at that time, phone calls and interviews and  etc... what similarities the lift has is that they both directors have a representation of minority and they also dedicated to their target audience which is young adults and above. They also used a lot of close-ups on people faces and things which was around them.

The Lift documentary doesn't have any set topic and it was handheld camera which was filmed by Marc Issac the director of his documentaries, what was boring about this documentary was only one location which was a flat and he was siting 10h a day in the lift filming people or residence of the building. The similarities that I found is that they both directors been focusing on real life and situations which has happend or which will be happening soon. Establishing shots been used in both films, but what The Lift has no used in the documentary was "Dramatic Irony Juxtaposition", both they used cut away shots to show the evidence.

Michael Moore has used music and cartoons which has represent a whole story about United Stated and the power of weapons and plus he used his own voice over to tell the short story.

The reason for these similarities in both documentaries which for example was close-ups was to show people facial expression and also the establishing shots to show the area where they filming. The differences which Michael Moore has used was voice over to introduce the film and talk moreover, archive footage was main evidence that he shown as was a prove of thing that he is saying which was true about gun and crime, music was to shown the tone of film and the mood of what director want to feel it and know the pain.

The Lift has no set topic because the film director want to make us to think what the topic can be about, and the film has only one location which was the lift because the title of the film was call the lift and that why he make the in this location.

Similarities that they both dedicated to their target audience because the reason was to focus on adults because in both films has talk about topic that young people for example children will be not interested to listen. another similarities that I have found that they both been focusing on real life the reason was that they want to know about the situation or about people that they been focusing and this was planed well in the films and it is good to know about it.

TASK 2 Sound Production - Dave Star wars analyse

The Star Wars is the film who was directed and written by George Lucas and the film was made in 1977.

Stars Wars is hybrid sci-fi genre, action and adventure film which presents characters Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia. The part of the narrative is that they trying to escape form empire and they run and they found the enter the trash compactor and trying avoid getting crushed and killed by the mysterious monsters one the the character drown in to water and he trying to survive and get out of this situation and they were attacked by a dianoga, which were known to live in garbage compactors (Trash compactor). Luke Skywalker was almost killed when the dianoga and took him underwater and this what I explain before, The trash compactor it start to close and is nowhere to runaway, Han Solo stop the walls with a metal bar, D2DR - decodes computer system and whole system stops and they survive.

The diegetic sound that we can hear is the voices of characters of Chewbacca, Sky Walker, Han Solo, Luke and Princess Leia. The diegetic sound is coming from dialogue and everything start from when they drop to crash compactor. To record the vocals to Star Wars film I think they used dynamic microphones and soundproof room. Chewbacca voice is the diegetic sound and actually he dialogue doesn't haven any spoken words, and he have to be more clearer than the others, also the sound of guns that are fired by the stormtroopers are diegetic sound, I think the sound was created by the foley artists in soundproof studio to create the gun sound and also the laser sound.

What interest me very much is R2-D2 and C-3PO and I was thinking a lot and I think they are both diegetic sound, I know you can not see any lip-syncing only you can hear that they making sound and also say that it can be non-diegetic sound, but what is important that you can see characters and also you can hear them speaking, so it would count to diegetic sound, where I think that the voice of C-3PO was recorded in the studio where they pitched so he has robot like vocal C-3PO is an android and R2-D2 voices were created by a analog synthesizer so that the voice will have highly qualified in vocal patterns and the sound effects to create R2-D2's vocal patterns.
The another diegetic sound that we can hear in Star War is the water when the group falls in the trash compacter, the water is a genuine sound effect, how the sound that is heard on the background and also you can see is the fact when Luke is captured by the Dianoga we hear the splashes when tried to squarm away and trying to survive.

The non-diegetic sound we can hear in the scene is the footsteps of the stormtroopers and this sound was created by the foley artists to make the stormtroopers more fearful like an soldiers or army in real life and I think the sound was recorded in an open space with soundproof walls and props for them use the sound with. The next non-diegetic sound you can hear is closing trash compactor, the sound we can hear is crashing trash such as metals, paper and etc... also the another non-diegetic sound is metal bar between the wall which block the walls and save them before they get crash and the sound it seems to me that is sound was pre-recorded and added to the sound board since it sounds like an actual machine and this look very realistic and the sound of non-diegetic sound very good.
R2-D2 is similar to machine sound patterns are recorded which include the pressure to the scene and the action and the soundtrack as well. The another non-diegetic sound is Luke trying to radio contact C-3PO, you don't see Luke talking on the radio transmitter that much and that why I thinking is non-diegetic, all you can see is quick cutaways between Luke and C-3PO for a few seconds, Luke voice was probably recorded in a soundproof studio on his own using a condenser microphones since it would be better suited for monologues and the dialogue on the radio, after the recording probably they add sound effects to make him sold like its from a radio signal to give the scene that realistic edge that it has in certain parts of the film.

The target audience will get interested in what is going to happen next in the scene because it creates atmosphere among the characters in the film so that we can also feel what they are feeling in the position that they are been put in and it is difficult for them to escape and this is create the tense and the atmosphere.

The soundtrack for Star Wars was put in fast-paced in futuristic-western type of music they choose and we can hear the sound of outside the trash compactor and it showing the action that is happen at the present time. When they get into trash compactor so it seams that the main characters having nothing to fear for the time being. But before that when Luke was caught Dianoga to break free just free just minutes later for the trash compactor to active which increase the speed of the soundtrack, because they are in danger but before it to end when RD-D2 disables the trash compactor which signals the relief of the characters and decreasing the tension of the scene.

What scene want to tell us is top get audience to get into behind the scene and fell the emanational level,as well has just watching the film.
